Can a “gamer” learn how to be goal driven?

Do you want your child to learn to level up without the controller in their hand?

Parents this is a SUPER important black belt life lesson…

Without having goals, life can be difficult with no direction. It becomes way too easy to fall into routine and never go anywhere and become complacent.

We are constantly teaching our children.

Our children are constantly testing our answers and watching!

Now, what does that mean? Kids will constantly test when YOU think it is ok to give up or not. Using encouragement, having pep talks, and cheering your child on are all great tools to help them learn how to keep on going towards their goals.

In our martial arts training at TX Black Belt Academy, we KNOW achieving goals isn’t always easy. It takes special qualities like focus, perseverance, self discipline, and a supportive team. Just having awesome parents sometimes isn’t enough. We work with our families and teachers all together to help our students reach new heights. Will your child want to succeed?

Martial Art kids love to succeed! They like to see progress. One great tool for anyone to use is have a goal for ranking up; like getting a new belt! When a child ranks up, they see the reward for their hard work, and when they don’t see results they can become discouraged. This is something video games have figured out, and this is why it is difficult to break kids away from the cycle of wanting to play them more often. In a recent study by Douglas Gentile, a research psychologist from Iowa State University (and director of research for the National Institute of Media and the Family), they found 8.5 percent of Americans between the ages of 8 and 18 (that's roughly 3 million people) are addicted to video games! Why? THEY ARE REWARDED TO KEEP PLAYING! No kid wants to play a video game that is unbeatable or without rewards. They strive to level up! Now, if we choose to use video games or other options to re-enforce that behavior, that is up to us!
